🏰 Main Attractions

1. Berat Castle (Kalaja e Beratit)
A living museum where civilizations overlap — Illyrian, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman. Built in the 4th century BC, the castle’s narrow cobblestone streets lead you through ancient walls, 12 medieval churches with stunning frescoes, and Ottoman-style homes from the 18th and 19th centuries.

2. Saint Michael’s Church
Built in the 14th century, this Orthodox gem stands dramatically on a rocky cliff overlooking the city. Its Byzantine masonry and breathtaking position make it one of the most photogenic churches in Albania.

3. Mangalem Quarter
Nestled beneath the castle, Mangalem is Berat’s most iconic neighborhood. Its white Ottoman houses stacked up the hillside give Berat its famous nickname, “The City of a Thousand Windows.” The area still preserves antique furniture and decorations from the 18th–19th centuries.

4. Gorica Bridge
The symbol of Berat, Gorica Bridge stretches 127 meters across the Osum River. Built in 1777–1778 by Ahmet Kurt Pasha, it remains one of the largest and most elegant stone bridges from that era — and is still in use today.

5. Onufri Museum
Located within the castle, the museum is dedicated to the famous Albanian iconographer Onufri. It showcases centuries-old icons, religious art, and church artifacts that reflect the region’s deep cultural and spiritual heritage.
